As the world faces a serious global climate change crisis, it’s important – now more than ever – to stand up together and make change happen.

Green Circle Salons was created by beauty industry leaders. This award-winning program empowers salons to recover up to 95% of their beauty waste. That includes previously unrecoverable materials and hard-to-recycle items like hair clippings, foils, excess hair color, aerosol cans, and color tubes.

The goal is to help salons and spas go green. Green Circle Salons does that while also ensuring their own operations and practices are green and sustainable. They’ve been certified by B Corp and the Carbon Trust to acknowledge that they meet the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility, and meet requirements for Zero Waste to Landfill.

By joining the Green Circle Salon team, we are being the change we want to see in the world and giving our clients a way to help in the process. We are initiating an Environmental Stewardship Fee (ESF) of just $2.00 to each appointment to help us fund this goal in order to make sure that this is always something we can afford to do.

You may wonder, where does all the beauty wast go?

Well, here’s your answer:

Hair clippings:

  • Composted with other organic waste

  • Turned into bio-composite plastic to make new products like recycling bins

  • Used to research and develop new environmental technology like insulation and storm water filtration

  • Made into products to be used for Humanitarian efforts

Excess hair color:

  • Turned into clean energy

  • Separated into water and oil. The water is cleaned and returned into the water system. The oil is blended into fuel.

Metals:

  • Foils, color tubes, and aerosol containers are sorted by grade and type and then are melted down into aluminum sheets or bars (called ingots) and then are used to make new products like car parts and bicycles.

Single use items:

  • Cotton, wax strips, gloves, etc. are used in a waste-to-energy process to create clean renewable energy.

  • The left over ash can be used as a filler in asphalt.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  • Face masks, disinfectant wipes, gloves, face shields…are collected and sealed in specific bags to be then sent to partners of Green Circle Salons for safe and proper processing.

  • These partners safely incinerate the container, tuning it into clean renewable energy to power homes and businesses.

  • The left over ash can be used as a filler in asphalt.

Plastics:

  • What we cannot recycle with the City of Seattle, we send in to be sorted, cleaned, ground into small pieces, and used to make new products like shampoo bottles.

Paper and Cardboard:

  • We are lucky to live in a city that offers paper and cardboard recycling so we will continue to use the City of Seattle’s recycling program for that.

Thank you for supporting us in being the change and helping us to make beauty beautiful!
